MT News
Objectives
Problems
News app are dedicated to provide information. However, the usability and reliablilty of news app created various challenges for seniors.
-
Seniors are unable to keep up with the features of news apps
-
Font sizes are difficult for readability
-
Information are overwhelming and misleading
-
Misinformation presents, reliability of articles remain unknown
Purpose
Whereas traditional news application only report news distributed by their outlet, MTN displays all of the news in one simple and convenient location for you, the reader

Instead of bombarding users with news that are not important, users have the option to subscribe to particular outlets and/or writers that they enjoy. Users can also run a quick background check on each one of them to confirm their credibility

Users are able to provide their opinions and comment on each articles. They can also refer to the comments to determine whether if they articles are trustworthy

Proposal
Our proposal is to create a user friendly news app to provide ease of use for seniors to navigate and retrieve news information.
-
Make clickable area bigger to resolve unresponsive issues
-
Make functions more obvious, transparent
-
Scrolling instead of swipe/tap
-
Change the typeface
-
Change the audio function
-
Get rid of borders
-
Provide more background info for the authors
-
Separate each function on its own page
-
Add a news reader for fact checker

Process

This is our color scheme based on researches of seniors' favorite colors
This is the base iteration of our MT news app based on the initial sketches. We tried to each draw an iteration so as to explore more ideas and concepts which is reflected in the other images

This is another one of our description. For this iteration, the goal was to create a UI that focused a lot on swiping and tapping. This kind of UI was inspired by Kindle
For this iteration, the UI focus was mostly scrolling and clicking. This design element was inspired by apps such as Twitter, where the text information has a word limit

Our last iteration, this design tried to go simpler. A lot of the design language involves curves and smooth edges instead of the traditional rectangular design
